Dear Family and Friends,
Hello, This is Bria, and I am writing you because I would like to inform you of an opportunity that I have, which is too good to pass up!
If you know me well, you know how much I love the Korean culture, and how much I’ve been studying the language; which is A LOT. I’ve been studying the Korean language for almost a year and I’ve been successfully progressing though with everyday studies.
Like my brother Marcus, who traveled to England at age 16; recently, I was presented with an opportunity to fulfill one of my dreams and travel to Seoul, South Korea with a close family friend. This adult friend is also going to allow my best friend to join us on this trip. She knows that it has been our dream for a very long time, and we have linked up with some wonderful South Korean friends to assist us in our efforts. With plans finally coming together, and everything falling into place, we get more excited everyday with hopes to make this journey and continue broadening our horizons while learning about the ways in which other cultures live.
I plan on studying the language and culture while I’m there. While I have already learned a lot about this Asian culture, there is so much more to learn. There's no better way of learning than to experience the culture first hand and spend time in the country, with the native people on their soil. My future plans include teaching the English language to South Korean children on a secondary level.
The reason why I would love to visit so soon is because, one, this opportunity doesn't come around every day, and two, I want to visit the country first, so I can make an educated decision about spending an entire semester there while in college. It's been a dream to travel with my best friend and she is equally excited to have this experience with me, and this is a chance for us to go together.
Unfortunately, I’ve encountered a “snag” in my plans. As of right now, I have limited opportunity to make money and to travel abroad, as we all know, is expensive. At the present, the total is going to be around $2500.00 for the plane ticket, hotel costs for a week, transportation around the city, food expenses, and a passport. I am doing as much as I can by trying to gain additional work, like babysitting, but the trip is at the end of September, and I am quickly running out of time. I am trying to raise enough money by August 15, but I only have three months to save and I need to raise this money quickly, for there is paperwork needed in order to travel out of the country.
That brings me to why I am writing to you. I am writing this letter to ask for your assistance in helping me raise this money. No donation is too small, and I would really appreciate any help that I can get right now. What an opportunity to experience this great trip!! August 15, 2011 is not that far away and I’m going to be trying my best to raise this money until then.
